Mike Nurse’s background in the Canadian life insurance, technology and business process outsourcing sectors gives him a unique skill set to help companies with their comprehensive or tactical requirements. Some of Mike’s work, as indicated below, also extends to providers of technology and administration services in the life insurance industry.

Life Insurance Company Projects

Challenge: Insurer required project management assistance for the development & installation of a paperless, end-to-end, ‘direct to consumer’ solution for fully-underwritten life insurance products
Solution:
  Provide lead project manager expertise and processes covering five companies in three countries.  Developed testing/regression testing plans.

Challenge: Insurer required project management assistance for the development & installation of a paperless, end-to-end, ‘direct to consumer’ solution for simplified-issue life insurance products
Solution:
  Provide lead project manager expertise and processes covering four companies in two countries.  Developed testing/regression testing plans.

Challenge: Insurer’s forward thinking management team wanted to explore a ‘direct-to-consumer’ sales and business model
Solution:
Developed a ‘Direct-to-Consumer’ life insurance sales and business model, based on straight-through processing

Challenge:  U.S. domiciled insurer has a legacy policy administration system that does not fit it’s growth plans
Solution:
Responsible for planning and conducting a North American-wide, individual life and health policy administration system search.  Involves mining our database of roughly 25 policy administration system vendors

Challenge:  Canadian insurer requires guidance and assistance in developing non-traditional distribution and sales
Solution:
Assisting CEO and Sales Management in understanding what distribution possibilities exist, and with plan implementation

Challenge: Insurer required market overview research on policy administration system and business process outsourcing vendors (licence fee and SaaS-based); and decision guidance recommendations 
Solution:
  Provided detailed, North American (and Canadian subset) market overview of vendors covering policy administration systems and business process outsourcing services.  Also provided overview of key considerations in the decision-making process of acquiring a policy administration or outsourcing  functions to a business process outsourcing provider

Challenge: Insurer required project management assistance for an upgrade to their policy administration system
Solution:
  Developed testing/regression testing plan and ran weekly meetings with management team until the plan was complete and the upgrade was successfully installed

Challenge: Insurer’s CEO needed hand’s on assistance to launch their strategic planning cycle
Solution:
  Developed and facilitated a SWOT (Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Strengths) analysis with Insurer’s Management Team and Board of Directors

Challenge:  Canadian insurer had a home-grown policy administration system that did not fit it’s growth plans
Solution:
Planned and conducted a (North America wide)  individual/group life and health policy administration system search

Challenge:  Insurer did not have sufficient internal resources to plan for, and transition to, a new policy administration system
Solution:
Project Manager for implementation of a new policy administration system

Challenge: With a renewed strategic emphasis on participating, permanent insurance, Insurer needed a presentation for intermediaries on the intricacies and value proposition of participating life insurance
Solution: 
Developed a comprehensive, educational PowerPoint presentation for participating life insurance

Challenge: Insurer decided to change it’s administration services vendor
Solution:
Developed & managed a North American-wide Expression of Interest-Request for Proposal process for an administration services,  outsourcing services provider

Challenge: Insurer needed market intelligence on participating insurance products
Solution:
Developed a market intelligence template and initiated market research

Challenge: Insurer needed to transform existing distribution channels
Solution:
Led the strategy development, and developed plans and implementation timelines

Challenge: Insurer’s brokerage leader required assistance in becoming more effective in securing new brokers, and ongoing broker relationship management

Mentored brokerage field manager – including joint field work,  answering objections, time management, management reporting, effectively positioning Insurer’s products and services

Developed a web-based internal stakeholder survey

Challenge:  Technology service provider wanted to pursue the development of a new service to the Canadian life insurance industry
Solution: 
Developed a comprehensive marketing, business development and sales plan

Challenge:  Medical services provider needed to make more effective use of technology for communicating with external stakeholders
Solution: 
Developed and implemented a plan for making more effective use of Microsoft Office for field communications and branding
